From the commercial standpoint, 2010 was not a good year for music games. Sales of the newest Guitar Hero plummeted; Viacom put Rock Band developer Harmonix up for sale. Even the most ardent fan of the genre must admit that the market feels saturated. But that didn't stop Rock Band 3 from becoming the best music game yet: it added a new keyboard part, plus the unexpected "pro mode," which brings players closer than ever to making music for real.
