[tonight] Blue Monday @ River Gods: British post-punk, shoegaze + Britpop (ya hear about our Top 100?)
By now, last week's Top 100 Britpop Anthems of the '90s list has hit a certain point of saturation -- there's the reader's vote (which oddly placed Blur's "Popscene" in the top spot all weekend), there's the massive Spotify playlist, there was the afterparty Friday night at the pill, there was the five-hour marathon show on WFNX on Thursday (hour-by-hour podcasts coming soon!), and there was endless discussion of our selections and rankings across Facebook, Twitter, message boards, and blogs. Suede's manager made mention of it online, and JOHNNY DEAN of Menswe@r expressed shock and horror at "Daydreamer" clocking in at number 9. We think we was kidding. Not sure.
So okay, cool, what a success, what else is there? How about Weekly Wax's Blue Monday at River Gods getting into the action, independently, tonight in Cambridge as DJs CHRIS EWEN and BRIAN L. promise a slick playlist of British post-punk, shoegaze and Britpop. Ahhh, Britpop. Love that motherfucking Britpop.
It starts at 8pm, and there's no cover. Sit in a throne, say a prayer to Richey Edwards, and maybe, just maybe, you'll hear a bunch of tunes off the list.
