M.I.A.'s Twitter feud with the New York Times: we get punk'd!
Ok, so like lots of other music aficionados, I spent a fair amount of yesterday inhaling Lynn Hirschberg's lengthy feature in the New York Times on M.I.A., secretly jealous that someone was able to get such seemingly inside access to the mysterious world of Mya Arulpragasam's world of luxury and protest. If you haven't read the piece, it's definitely worth checking out-- although the occasionally unflattering tone of the piece has definitely incensed Ms. A herself, as evidenced by a tweet of hers this morning:
xxx.xxx.xxxx CALL ME IF YOU WANNA TALK TO ME ABOUT THE N Y T TRUTH ISSUE, ill b taking calls all day bitches ;)
...Except replace those x's with a telephone number that lots of people, including yours truly, thought might actually lead one to a breathless phoner with M.I.A. herself. Well, I guess I figured someone at the Phoenix had to take one for the team, so I dialed, tensely, tape recorder in hand.
"You have reached the mailbox of Lynn Hirschberg. This mailbox is currently full."
Diss! You have to admire Mya's guerilla tactics: when in doubt, spam your enemy's mailbox, right?
