Class of 2011: Eleven Boston bands to ring in the New Year

The bands you should be listening to this year

MMOSS | When Mmoss released the forest-run acid trip "Wander" via Bandcamp a few days after Christmas, it became clear that the neo-psych Granite State quartet are primed for a breakout 2011 after a few years of crafting cassette releases and hypnotic live experiences. Seemingly trapped in 1967 and armed solely with Rachel Neveu's flute as a compass to guide them back to modern times, Mmoss take Syd Barrett–era Pink Floyd and distill it through a kaleidoscope of organic sound. Last year's self-released, 18-track i cassette was remanufactured with a five-fold increase by California indie label Burger Records, and in March, it'll get the vinyl treatment from both Burger and Italy's Wild Honey Records. Mmoss are hitting SXSW, and four separate tours are in store for the New Year. "We're taking four sightseeing Americana trips to all the places we wanna play," reports Neveu. Everybody get in the van.
