Best Electronic/Dance Act in Boston
André Obin
Although many would peg the general ubiquity of dubstep as the electronic music story of 2011, it's refreshing to know that Phoenix readers have kept their minds out of the gutter and named André Obin top local electronic act. "Sultry" is the best word to describe the Cambridge native's recent output, namely the five-and-a-half minutes of dripping bliss otherwise known as "Soft Rain." Because music this sexual isn't bred in Boston all that often, it's important to take notice. Equipped with a smooth blended remix by way of Patrice Bäumel, and two reworkings by Dutch deep-house producer Melon, Obin makes quite the tidy bundle out of one dance floor burner. Obin brings a solid voice to a niche genre that this city has not been represented in for some time. House may never have the backing to garner its own night at the Middle East, but it's reassuring to know that someone is trying.RUNNERS-UP:
